Alternate Suggested Schedule

The upper-level accountancy program is rigorous and will require more of your time and effort to be successful than lower-level courses. Many employers place significant weight on a student's GPA and involvement in campus activities when making hiring decisions. In addition, Department of Accountancy scholarships are often awarded based on a student's upper-level accountancy GPA. Consequently, if you are working, commuting, and/or have personal responsibilities that require your time, the department recommends spreading your upper-level courses out over five semesters so that you have sufficient time to balance school with your other commitments while being successful in the accountancy program.

REMEMBER THE 60 HOUR RULE: Multiply the number of credit hours in which you are enrolled by three. Subtract that number from 60 hours to determine how many hours you can reasonably work per week without experiencing complete burn out.

Example: A student is enrolled in 17 credit hours and works 20 hours per week.

  • 17 x 3 = 51 hours per week for attending class, completing assignments, and studying
  • 60 - 51 = 9 hours to work per week

If you cannot decrease the number of hours you are working, enroll in fewer hours per semester as recommended in the schedule below.
