The One-Year MBA is designed for working professionals who have acquired a management understanding through an undergraduate business degree or equivalent of related courses. The following courses or equivalents must be completed (grade of C or better at the undergraduate level, grade of B or better at the graduate level) prior to enrolling in the One-Year MBA:
- Business Information Systems
- Business Statistics
- Financial Accounting
- Fundamentals of Financial Management
- Graduate Survey of Marketing
- Legal Aspects of Business
- Principles of Management
- Principles of Operations Management
- Survey of Business Economics (Macro and Micro)
For candidates with a non-business undergraduate degree and those with a business degree who have not successfully completed all of the courses listed above, these prerequisites must be satisfied prior to starting the One-Year MBA. Eligible candidates may enroll in these program prerequisite courses prior to starting the One-Year MBA when offered by the NIU Evening MBA program. These prerequisites may also be satisfied with a passing score on a course-specific exemption examination.
In addition to reviewing transcripts during the admission process, the MBA office will evaluate transcripts prior to submission of the application, checking for the prerequisite courses or their equivalents. Transcripts may be faxed to (815) 753-3300 for this evaluation.
Since the One-Year MBA is designed for students with a substantial business academic background, students are expected to draw quickly from their previous course work. Given the accelerated pace of the program, applicants should examine their background and skills objectively to determine if refresher work is necessary prior to starting the program. .
After an application is submitted, the candidate will be notified and a personal interview will be scheduled.
- Graduate School Application
Application to the Graduate School is made via the online application process. Application over our secure server requires a credit card to pay the $40 application fee. (application)
- Supplemental Information
Students should complete and mail the supplemental information form as early as possible. This form should be mailed directly to the MBA Office. (supplemental information form)
- Two Letters of Recommendation
Two letters of recommendation are required. Letters of recommendation should be completed by a professional associate who has known the candidate at least one year. (recommendation form)
- Statement of Purpose
- Official Transcript(s)
An official college transcript from the college or university from which the student graduated is required. (transcript request form)
- Official GMAT Score (more info about exam) Students can improve their GMAT Score with the NIU College of Business GMAT Test Prep course.
- Sponsor Agreement
