Alternate Suggested Upper-Division Course Schedule

Although other factors are also important in getting a good job, most employers, when making hiring decisions, place significant weight on a student's GPA and involvement in campus activities. If you were taking just one accounting course during a semester, planning and managing your time so that you could successfully learn the course material and participate in campus activities would not be an issue. You, however, are probably taking more than one course each semester as well as possibly working, commuting, and trying to keep up a personal life. Nobody can sustain an intense schedule for long. So that you can meet all of your responsibilities, succeed at NIU, and be offered the career position you want, you need to keep the following guidelines in mind as you plan your course schedule.

Remember the 60 Hour Rule: Multiply the number of hours in which you are enrolled by three. Subtract the amount from 60 hours in order to determine how many hours you can reasonably work in a week and not experience complete burn-out. If you cannot decrease the number of hours you are working, then decrease the number of hours in which you enroll as suggested in the schedule below.
