NIU routinely prepares Junior Accountancy majors for internship recruiting during the Fall Semester. We employ a formal “Intern Recruiting Process" during the Fall Semester. Internship interviews for the following summer and the Spring Semester of a student's Senior year take place in December, the week after final exams. In December 2009, employers will interview interns for Summer 2010, Fall 2010, and Spring 2011. Employers are NOT allowed to interview students who are juniors prior to December 14, 2009 for Summer 2010, Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 internships.
NIU utilizes the Victor eRecruiting software, managed by the NIU Career Services Department. This software provides a tool for posting jobs, collating resumes, scheduling interviews and interview candidate selection. Employers who wish to recruit interns for Summer 2010, Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 MUST post such jobs on Victor eRecruiting by October 18, 2009.
Beta Alpha Psi, the Accountancy Honor Society, sponsors "Meet the Intern" Night each year. This year, the event is Wednesday, October 28, 2009. The Duke Ellington Ballroom in the Holmes Student center will be available at 5:30 for Intern Employers to set up their displays. The students will be allowed to enter the room at 7:00. We want to end at 9:00. There is a fee for this event. Please contact Kristy Ross, Accountancy Department Secretary, at (815) 753-1637, for more information. In September 2009, we will email information and registration forms regarding this event. To ensure that a firm is on our email list, please contact Kristy Ross or Tamara Phelan .
No further employment obligation by firm or interns: The internship employers are not obligated to the intern beyond the term of the internship, nor is the intern obligated to the firm subsequent to the period of internship. Employment offers may be made to the intern at or near the completion of the internship.
Employers must complete an official "NIU evaluation form" for each intern and return it to the Department of Accountancy in a timely manner.
