Welcome New Leadership to the NIU CPA Review

Last year, after 27 years of service, Debra Hopkins retired as Director of the highly acclaimed NIU College of Business CPA Review. This year we welcomed Mark Hogan to the college, serving as the new CPA Review Director. An Illinois CPA, Mark attended the University of Illinois-Champaign where he received his Bachelors of Science in Accountancy. He also attended Northwestern University where he received his MBA in Finance and Accounting.

Mark came to NIU from Nicor National, where he served as Controller and Treasurer. He worked in public accounting at Ernst & Young, and has directed accounting, financial analysis, and internal audit departments at several multi-billion dollar companies. In addition to his many years of experience in public accounting and the corporate world, Mark taught Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, and Auditing at several local universities, including Elmhurst College, Benedictine University, Loyola University, and NIU.

Mark and his wife Carol (also a CPA) are blessed with three great children – Julie (a first grade teacher in La Paz, Bolivia), Danny (to be married this summer to his college sweetheart), and Paul (a forward on the NIU soccer team). If you get a chance to meet Mark, you may quickly learn that he is not only enthusiastic about his work and his family, but also loves sports, including golf, biking, and soccer.

Mark’s cornerstone philosophy, which NIU CPA Review candidates can also embrace to help in their studies, comes from Abraham Lincoln: “Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other one thing.”
