NIU CAUSE: On Being Unreasonable
The Collegiate Association of Unreasonable Social Entrepreneurs
When you ask the current generation of NIU students to describe how they're typically typecast, they'll tell you their swagger has everything to do with deeply rooted expectations. They expect to change the world for the better, and they're well on their way to doing exactly that.

Management Department Launches Center for Social Entrepreneurship
The NIU College of Business is no stranger to social entrepreneurship. The Department of Management has been teaching in the social entrepreneurship area since 2007, well ahead of most other colleges and universities. This fall, the program will launch its Center for Social Entrepreneurship (CSE).
The establishment of the CSE will allow NIU to bring together all entrepreneurship programs and activities, including experiential learning, research, and outreach. Having a center will support consistency and effectiveness among the programs and activities, as well as help to share key resources.
"Once the CSE is up and running, everything in the social entrepreneurship space will be through the center," explains Christine Mooney, the Bill & Paula LeRoy Professor of Social Entrepreneurship. "It's an exciting time; the CSE will help NIU to firmly establish itself as a leader in the area of social entrepreneurship."

The Power of Microfinance Video courtesy of Investours Videographer: Greg Reppucci.
On a Microfinance study abroad trip to Mexico in April of this year, NIU students met Mari Chuy. Mari has the dream of building a better life for her family by opening her own restaurant. When they returned to campus, the NIU students decided to raise the money to help her achieve her dream. Students helped her plan her budget for the project when they were there in June to present her the money.
The project, and money, is managed by Investours.
Be sure to watch the video to the very end to catch a tour of where the restaurant will be built and her thank you to NIU students.
