NIU Business AACSB Accreditation Extended: A Mark of Quality For Graduates
The NIU College of Business is proud to announce the extension of its AACSB accreditation. The process to extend accreditation with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) occurs every five years; NIU Business has been AACSB accredited since 1969 and the Accountancy program since 1983. The process is rigorous and ongoing—but essential—providing a benchmark of quality for business education worldwide.
The AACSB/Assessment Director for the college, Amy Buhrow, explains why the accreditation is so significant. "AACSB accreditation is extremely important to the quality of our academic programs, faculty, students, and graduates. The accreditation process provides a structure in which we continuously look at the external environment, and ourselves, to then make adjustments to curricula and operations to best serve our students and society. Accreditation ensures students have access to top-notch faculty who are active researchers and practitioners in their fields and is a mark of quality for those hiring our graduates."
Less than 1% of business schools worldwide hold both AACSB business and accounting accreditation; NIU College of Business holds this distinguished honor. Why should this matter to our 54,000 alumni? AACSB accreditation differentiates us and provides a stamp of our superior quality program. Employers trust AACSB business schools have stronger academic programs, faculty, and students, thus producing higher caliber, better-prepared graduates. The sustained AACSB accreditation from NIU business ensures your degree will have long-term value in the marketplace.
Continuous improvement is the cornerstone of accreditation. Alumni can get involved by serving on advisory boards, funding strategic initiatives, getting involved in faculty research, and providing real-world perspective to students through classroom visits, mentor relationships, and intern recruitment.
There is great pride among faculty, staff, and students in the extension of our accreditation. AACSB accredited schools are considered to be the best business schools in the world!
