THE CLASS: The Marketing Department at Northern Illinois University (NIU) is excited to announce the first annual Marketing Apprentice Class based on the popular TV program, The Apprentice. Students enrolling in this class will receive course credit for participating in a variety of marketing challenges and winners will also receive scholarships. Teams of students will compete in marketing research, selling, advertising, fundraising, and developing marketing plans. Click here to find out about our players.
Joe Cullinane, Dean DeBiase, and Myron Siegel, three successful NIU alumni, will serve as the program CEOs. For more information about these "Trump" alums, click here.
WHEN: The class will run from August 23 until October 4, and each student will compete against each other to produce the best outcome for each task. Each of the six Monday nights from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Monday night board meeting, one student from the losing team will be fired by the CEO. In the final week, the two final teams will go head to head for the title of Marketing Apprentice and a $1,000 scholarship for each student on the winning team. Students on the second place team will receive a $500 scholarship each.
WHERE: The Monday night board meetings in Barsema Hall on NIU's DeKalb campus are open to the public via videoconferencing in Barsema 140 and on the local NIU television channel. Videos of the weekly team interactions will be produced by NIU senior film students and shown at the board meetings. Come join us on Monday nights for the Marketing Apprentice!
