Special Use of Public Spaces
NIU organizations approved by the College of Business may setup a table in the Barsema Hall atrium space for special use (i.e., selling sweatshirts or other fundraising activity) after obtaining approval from the College of Business dean's office. This activity is only allowed in the atrium area on the first floor of Barsema Hall. For some special events, a greeter may be located on the second floor inside the front entrance to Barsema Hall, but approval for this must also be granted by the dean's office.
All special uses of the atrium or other public space in Barsema Hall must be first approved by printing and then completing the form. A completed and signed paper copy of the form needs to be presented to the dean's office, Barsema Hall 139 at least one week prior to the date of the event or activity. A decision on the request will be made within 48 hours of receipt of the request and can be picked up in Barsema Hall 139.
Existing atrium tables should be used for the event and these should be returned to their original location at the conclusion of the event. All trash associated with the event should be disposed of properly and larger items (such as empty food containers) should be taken directly to the dumpsters located on the 2nd floor outside at the southwest corner of the building.
Any announcements desired for the event should be submitted online. No paper-based signs may be posted on any walls or left lying on tables/surfaces in Barsema Hall.
