Distinguished Donor Spotlight ~ Rich Richter
Rich Richter likes to feel financially secure. So going into financial management was a natural fit for this 6'3" 1990 College of Business Finance major. In big ways and small, Richter helps others. He supports a group that sells health insurance to companies with over 3,000 employees and finds it extremely rewarding. Employed by Aetna Inc. for over 14 years and in his current role for 2, Richter likes dealing with numbers and enjoys the impact he and his ideas can make within the business environment - all the while - helping others.
So when the Aetna Chicago office set up and encouraged employees to donate money back to charitable organizations, it was a no-brainer for Richter. With Aetna's corporate matching funds campaign, he along with other NIU alumni at the company gladly donated. Richter likes to see his donation elevate the finance degree he and others received from NIU. The contributions help employ the best and brightest faculty and go towards training, mentoring and educating. "I like what Marc Simpson [the Chair of Finance Dept.] is doing. He's setting up students for good careers by encouraging them to specialize: financial management, treasury, banking, etc." And it has been paying off. An overwhelming number of Finance majors secure jobs in their industry within months of graduation. And with the help of more donations from Finance alumni and others, it can only get better. Not a bad way for a NIU grad to help himself and others.
