Family Shelter Services Client Information Management System

Family Shelter Services (FSS) is a nonprofit organization that supports victims of domestic abuse and their children in DuPage County. A team of 5 undergraduate and graduate students from Northern Illinois University's College of Business worked closely with FSS to plan, develop and implement a client information system using Visual Basic.Net and SQL Server.


Family Shelter Services Victim Advocacy Database System

Family Shelter Services (FSS) is a nonprofit organization that supports victims of domestic abuse and their children in DuPage County. A team of 5 undergraduate and graduate students from Northern Illinois University's College of Business worked closely with FSS to plan, develop and implement a database management system to support tracking and management of domestic violence calls using Visual Basic.Net and SQL Server.


Microsoft Knowledge Ecosystem

A team of 5 undergraduate and graduate students from Northern Illinois University's College of Business worked closely with Microsoft Corporation and the ELC to take part in the initial research and development of a potential new product that could be best described as a personal information manager (PIM) to structure and track reference-type information and events that a knowledge worker may want to manage.


Nicor Gas Absence Control Policy Project

In 2003 Nicor Gas and its union negotiated an Absence Control Policy (ACP) that outlined attendance requirements and disciplinary action for its call center employees. Although absenteeism has improved since the program's implementation in March 2003, it is still higher than the company average. A team of NIU/COB students worked with Nicor Gas management and ELC coaches to address several issues: Why do call center employees have a higher than average absenteeism rate? What is a normal absenteeism rate? Does ACP provide an effective means for employees to want to come to work? What process improvements can be made for tracking employee attendance?


Nicor Gas Customer Care Specialist Scorecard Project

The Nicor Gas Call Center responds to inbound telephone calls from customers. The call center employs 175 Customer Care Specialists (CCS). Each CCS receives a scorecard that measures their performance on a monthly basis. A team of NIU/COB students worked with Nicor Gas management and ELC coaches to address several questions: Are the right things being measured? Does the scorecard provide a motivation for improved performance? What process improvements can be made to make the preparation and delivery of the scorecards more efficient?


NIU College of Business Stakeholder Relationship Management System

NIU A team of 5 undergraduate and graduate students from Northern Illinois University's College of Business developed and implemented a web-based database for the Dean's office within the College of Business at Northern Illinois University. The Dean's office wanted to implement a strategic/marketing process and application system to support the ongoing relationships with a select group of external stakeholders. Students worked with several development tools that included Visual Basic.NET, Active Server Pages, and SQL Server.
