Printing Policy
Beginning Fall 2012, NIU begins the 3-year phase out of free printing in all computer labs on campus. For this academic year, students will be allowed 300 free pages printed in the computer labs per semester. There will be no carryover of unused prints from 1 semester to another. After they have used up their free prints, students must then print to the new Pharos/Anywhere Printers located in the labs as well as public spaces in the building. The print quality on these new devices is extraordinary and they also provide the option for color printing. The cost per page for black and white is anticipated to be $0.07 cents/page and $0.25 for color.
We encourage you to explore more electronic forms of course material distribution as well as assignment submission to help reduce printing. To learn more about Blackboard support for this, please contact us at COBTech@niu.edu.
Classroom Supplies
For classroom supply needs (i.e., markers, batteries, etc.) stop by Tech Resources in Barsema 228.
Moving or Removing Classroom Furniture
Please do not move chairs from one classroom to another (this includes the regular classrooms, auditorium, tiered classrooms, and computer labs). Classes are carefully scheduled by the Dean's Office into specific rooms based on their designed capacity (which is based in part on fire codes). When you move chairs out of one room and into another, faculty who are scheduled in the room that now contains fewer chairs are finding they do not have enough seats for their students. Also, please do not rearrange furniture in the classrooms unless you are in a room designated as a "mobile" classroom. These mobile rooms are Barsema 119, 219, 227, 315, 331, and 344 . Even though these rooms allow you to rearrange the furniture, we ask that you return the furniture to the default layout for the classes that use the room after you.
