Checklist for Seniors

  • Apply for graduation, pay the $29 graduation fee, AND watch for deadlines!
You must have at least 90 total semester hours to apply for graduation and your $29.00 graduation fee is due when you apply. Please be aware of strict application deadlines found on the Office of Registration & Records Graduation Information page.

  • Review your DARS report each semester.
After registering for your last semester, wait at least 24 hours and then run your DARS again, www.reg.niu.edu/regrec/connect. Once you have all requirements completed or in progress, you will see the statement: All requirements completed --- in progress courses used towards the top of your DARS.

  • Remember that YOU are responsible for your graduation requirements.
The DARS is originated by R&R, the office which also runs a final check on your requirements for graduation. If you find any discrepancies, be sure to contact R&R or your academic advisor as soon as possible.

  • Take advantage of campus recruiting.
To do so, you must attend an Orientation session led by Career Services. These sessions are only held during the first few weeks of the semester…don't miss out!!

  • Use Victor eRecruiting.
Keep your profile and resume up-to-date, and apply for positions using NIU's on-line job search database. Attend an orientation session as mentioned above to get the most out of using Victor eRecruiting.

  • Exit Interview for Federal Perkins Loan or Federal Stafford Loan.
Students who previously received a Federal Perkins Loan or Federal Stafford Loan are required to have an exit interview before they leave school. For more information, visit www.fa.niu.edu/exit.htm.

  • Read all mail and meet all deadlines with regards to Commencement.
Commencement information (tickets, cap and gown, time/location, etc.) is posted on the Convocation Center website.
