College of Business - The 2000's

In the Fall of 2002, Barsema Hall was opened. Thanks to the generosity of NIU Alum Dennis Barsema, and his wife Stacey, the College of Business had a new home filled with state-of-the-art technology.

The144,000 square foot, $20 million dollar facility combines classrooms, computer labs, a 377-seat auditorium, specialized labs, faculty and staff offices, and spaces for studying, meeting, and eating.

Once the College was situated in its new home, the College of Business web site received an overhaul, as well, with a unifying design created to highlight the learning environment that Barsema Hall offered to students, faculty, and staff.

By 2002 web traffic on the College of Business web site exceeded 200,000 visits annually.

Academic excellence continues to be the focus of the College of Business. The Master of Science in Taxation received AACSB accreditation (in 2004); the College has achieved continuous accreditation by the AACSB for the past 36 years; and, four out of five academic departments collaborate with business advisory boards that are made up of business professionals who share their insight and experiences.
