The Accountancy undergraduate program and the Master of Accounting Science program both received AACSB accreditation in 1983.
With the onset of the Internet, the Department of Business Systems and Analysis became the Department of Operations Management & Information Systems in 1989.
The college was the first college at the university to create computer laboratories intended to enrich the students’ educational experience and give them exposure to software applications used in industry. The college also established a Master in Information Systems degree program.
After serving in various teaching and administrative capacities, Dr. Richard Brown was appointed dean of the College of Business in 1984.
Dean Brown focused on building partnerships with important business organizations and alumni and on using their input to define NIU's business educational outcomes and the quality of its graduates and services.
