"Professionally, the NIU E.M.B.A. program provided me with the tools and resources that helped me to qualify my 15-plus years as an executive and business owner, and to make the appropriate course corrections. The E.M.B.A. faculty and my classmates gave me an opportunity to share my experiences and opinions. The reality soon came that I learned more from the sharing of their real world experiences and the subsequent class rooms discussions. We gained a respect for one another because we all knew the value that each brought to the program. This exchange is the true tangible value of the E.M.B.A. program at NIU!"

A limited number of graduate assistantships are offered by each department to assist students. These assistantships, which can involve classroom teaching or other options, are awarded on a competitive basis to full-time students who are in good academic standing. These assistantships typically entail responsibilities in return for a tuition-waiver scholarship and monthly stipend. Students who have been awarded an assistantship for an academic year are often entitled to tuition wavier, but not a stipend, for the following summer term, as well as a discount at the college bookstore. Application forms for graduate assistantships are available from the Graduate School and from each department.
A student whose native language is not English who wishes to be employed as a graduate teaching assistant engaged in classroom instruction must also present an acceptable score on either the Speaking Proficiency English Assessment Kit (SPEAK) administered at NIU by the English as a Second Language (ESL) Clinic, or on the Test of Spoken English (TSE).
The Graduate Student Grants and Fellowship Office in the Office of Sponsored Projects has a database of over 500 funding sources from both private and public agencies. They're located at 207A Altgeld Hall, or you can call them at (815) 753-9283.
The M.B.A. Pala scholarship program is available through the generosity of an Evening M.B.A. Program alumnus, Steven Pala. Open to newly admitted Evening M.B.A. students, this scholarship is earmarked for academically talented NIU M.B.A. candidates who are planning part-time study at our off-campus sites and are financing their own degrees without employer educational or Veteran's benefits. Contact the office of M.B.A. Program office for more information.
