ALTERNATIVE COURSE SEQUENCE
Although several factors are important in getting a good job, most employers place significant weight on GPA and involvement in campus activities. To achieve a competitive GPA and participate in campus activities, you will need to allocate your time to these goals as well as to your personal activities and responsibilities. If you could take just one management course during a semester, you could likely earn a competitive GPA and participate in campus activities. However, you will likely take more than one management course each semester as well as possibly working, commuting, and trying to keep up a personal life. Nobody can sustain an intense schedule for long. To meet all of your responsibilities, succeed at NIU, and be offered the career position you want, you need to keep the following guideline in mind as you plan your course schedule. For alternative course sequences, see the following links.

REMEMBER THE 60-HOUR RULE
Multiply the number of hours in which you are enrolled by three. Subtract that amount from 60 hours to determine how many hours you can reasonably work a week and not experience complete burnout. If you cannot decrease the number of hours you are working, then you need to consider decreasing the number of hours in which you enroll as suggested in the schedule below.

SUMMER SESSION
The Management Department does offer a limited schedule of courses during the summer session. Generally, prior summer schedules are a good indicator of future summer schedules. Typically, the summer schedule for management courses will include MGMT 217, MGMT 346 and MGMT 468. Occasionally, the summer schedule will include MGMT 335 and/or MGMT 355. Rarely will the summer schedule include any of the four courses required by the area of study.
