The Management Coaching Network is a new program that takes acclimated business students and trains them into becoming mentors/coaches for those students that are looking for help but don't know how to ask. The first semester of the program aims at mentoring UBUS 310/311 students so they can develop skills that will help them succeed within the class and for the rest of their career. The Management Coaching Network is designed to evolve and grow each semester by addressing problems significant to Management majors. For example, 1st semester business students and the increasing drop/fail rate of UBUS 310/311, 2nd semester students problems finding a balance between work/life and/or guidance in finding an internship, and helping 3rd/4th semester students preparing for the business world and guidance paying off college accrued debt.
Mentor/coaching programs have been a big success in American companies by training new employees, establishing social networks, decreasing turnover rate, and it also gives the mentors or coaches valuable insight into the mentees' problems and helps build cohesion within the company. The same principle can be applied to college students when it comes to establishing business relationships with fellow students and faculty. Many students still use their contacts they created at the College of Business after they graduate to find jobs, connect with other business, or just stay in touch.
This first semester we are looking for strong mentors to set a precedent for future semesters. We understand that many business students commute and/or work so time is very valuable, so we have structured the program to be flexible to the mentors and mentees' schedule. Throughout the semester there will be a training session, and four programmed "socials". Meetings with your mentees'/mentors will depend on the relationship that is formed and the agreed meeting times. There will also be a collection of communication resources that will be utilized so you won't have to meet in person all the time.
