The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is a national organization dedicated to education and promotion in the field of human resource management. With over 200,000 members worldwide, SHRM is the largest professional organization devoted to the human resource profession. Northern Illinois University's SHRM chapter is one of more than 200 student chapters. NIU's chapter has traditionally been one of the nation's largest student chapters.


Human resource management includes such activities as: Human resource planning, recruitment, selection, training and development, compensation, and managing labor-management relations.

These activities are critical determinants in any organization's success!


SHRM-NIU offers its members a variety of activities, such as networking opportunities with professional chapters such as the Society for Human Resource Professionals (Chicago), Rockford Area SHRM, DuPage SHRM, Northwest Human Resources Council (Arlington Heights), The HR Association of Greater Oak Brook, and other locations. Other activities include guest speakers, internship programs, student and national conferences, workshops, a mock interview fundraiser, and social events. Members are also encouraged to sit for the HR profession's certification examination.
