The Department of Management offers a B.S. degree with a major in management.

The Management Department is home to dynamic and award-winning faculty focused on student success through innovative curriculum, business partnerships, and creating real world experiences in the classroom.

Leading Edge Programs

The Department partners with NIU alumni and business partners to provide internships, scholarships, and consulting experiences for students. Our Management Executive Advisory Council, comprised of over a dozen business professionals, provides the insights, experience, and contacts to advise Management faculty on maintaining a dynamic and innovative program that prepares students for professional success.

Developed with our Management Executive Advisory Council, the Management program develops each student's ability to solve problems, build relationships, communicate, and the professional skills necessary to succeed in today's business world.

Depending on their interests and career goals, students can choose one of two different emphases, Human Resource Management and Leadership and Management.

All management majors will pursue a similar schedule for their first three years at NIU. The fourth year will vary depending on their emphasis. Any student admitted to NIU can declare a major in management. In their junior year, all declared Management majors participate in a transcript review before enrolling in 300- or 400-level management courses required by the major. The transcript review assures that students are "on track" and have the necessary coursework to fulfill the remaining requirements of the major. learn more...

Human Resource Management Emphasis

Management majors with an emphasis in human resource management engage in careers involving the recruitment and selection of management talent, development retention strategies, and training and managing employees.

Graduates in Management with the human resource management emphasis will be prepared for entry-level positions as human resource generalists or specialists in a variety of firms. Leadership and Management Emphasis

Management majors with an emphasis in leadership and management pursue careers in a wide variety of organizations where they manage people, information, and action. Our graduates take management positions and pursue entrepreneurial ventures. Opportunities Outside of the Classroom

Creating opportunities for our students to learn outside the classroom is an important objective for the Management Department. The Department of Management has excellent relationships with alumni and employers of our graduates. They provide opportunities not only for employment for graduates but also internships for students and faculty, scholarships for students, and consulting and research for faculty.
