Vol 2: May 2005
Greetings from the new President
Dear Members of the MMA:
We had a great Spring Conference with the number of registered primary marketing participants at 154 (as of Thursday afternoon at the conference). MMA had 169 names in the conference program, 16 scholarly paper sessions, 10 special topic and panel sessions, 4 business executive sessions and 3 joint sessions with the Society of Case Research. Many thanks are due to numerous volunteers who worked for the success of the MMA Spring 2005 Conference Program. First, I am thankful to the on-site volunteers. Special thanks to Michelle Kunz for her technical skills in working with our laptops and LCD projectors. She seemed to always know how to get the system to work. Also, thanks to Rob Moore for his assistance in coordinating our technology system for the presentations.
Other on-site volunteers at the conference who should be recognized include: Mary Albrecht, Tim Aurand, Russell Casey, John Cherry, Mike d’Amico, Raj Devasagayam, Brian Engelland, Bob Erffmeyer, Jerry Field, Fred Hoyt, Rajesh Iyer, Karen James, Karen Kennedy, JoAnn Linrud, Rob Luke, Melissa Moore, Sue Petroshius, Charlie Pettijohn, Rick Shannon, Mandeep Singh, Julie Toner, Irena Vida, Charles Wiles, Rama Yelkur, and Larry Zigler (sorry if I left someone out). I also want to thank all the presenters, discussants and session chairs that helped us “Explore New Frontiers in Marketing” in a lively and effective manner at the conference.
We were honored to have Dr. David Aaker as our keynote speaker at our Awards Brunch. He certainly was a fitting honoree for the Innovative Contributor in Marketing Award.
My gratitude goes to the 15 track chairs who publicized their tracks, appealed to authors to submit manuscripts and recruited reviewers, discussants and session chairs. I am very grateful to Mary Askim, Russell Casey, John Cherry, Raj Devasagayam, Larry Haase, Bill Hannaford, Rajesh Iyer, Karen James, Karen Kennedy, Nathan Kling, Robert Moore, Linda Mullen, Glenn Pitman, Mandeep Singh, and Holt Wilson for their service as track chairs for the 2005 spring conference.
Thanks to the many members who recruited speakers for the program or developed a panel presentation, such as Mary Albrecht, Brian Engelland, Jerry Field, Fred Hoyt, Thomas Klein, Michelle Kunz, Dale Lewison, Allen Marber, Susan Petroshius, Julie Toner, and Rama Yelkur. I deeply appreciate the many authors who submitted their manuscripts. Thanks are also due the many reviewers involved in the evaluation of these papers.
Appreciation is also extended to my co-editors for the proceedings, Michelle Kunz and Dee Anne Larson. Their work to ensure the quality of the proceedings is greatly appreciated. It is tedious and time-consuming work to review each paper for its adherence to formatting standards.
The 2005 Spring Conference continued the Master Marketing Teacher Competition, chaired by last year’s winner of the competition, Jon Hawes. I appreciate the work Jon put forth for this quality teaching competition. MMA is also grateful to have the continued sponsorship of this program by Hormel Foods Corporation.
This year’s conference featured collaboration with the Society of Case Research (SCR). Many thanks to Martha Fransson, Program Chair of SCR for her work in reviewing cases submitted by MMA members and for developing special sessions of interest to both of our organizations.
Finally, I am thankful for the support and guidance of my predecessor in this role, Fred Hoyt, the current President of MMA.
It has been my honor to serve you as your Program Chair and President-Elect. I look forward to serving you as President this year.
