Marketing Insights, Innovations & Ingenuity:  Looking Ahead to Spring 2006

By Melissa Moore

It’s time again to start planning for the MBAA International Annual Conference at the Chicago Palmer House Hilton, and as you might expect, the Marketing Management Association (MMA) will continue to be a key participant!  Since its first meeting in 1965, the MBAA International has acted as a coordinating body for autonomous groups in a variety of business-related academic areas.  Today, there are over 700 members representing twelve different organizations, with the MMA being among them.

One of the key benefits associated with the MBAA International/MMA marriage is our inclusion in the annual conference.  The 2006 Annual MBAA International Conference is scheduled for Wednesday, March 15 through Friday, March 17, 2006.  This year’s theme is “Safeguarding the Public:  Responsible Business Practices, Ethical Behavior, and Fraud Prevention.”

As MBAA International discusses ideology around protecting consumers in our modern society, MMA will explore the latest theories of improving and updating businesses with its theme, “Marketing Insights, Innovations & Ingenuity: Marketing in the 21st Century.”

An official call for papers will be sent early this summer.  Start making plans now to attend!  A great way to get involved is by submitting your paper as soon as possible to one of the 12 great tracks. Choose from Consumer Behavior, Marketing Research, Retailing, Sales Management, IMC, Services Marketing, Global Marketing & Cross-Cultural Understanding, Marketing Management & Strategy, Legal & Ethical Issues, E-Commerce & Technological Innovations, Marketing Education, and the Graduate Student track.  In addition to competitive papers, we will be seeking Workshops and Special Session proposals along with volunteers to serve as session chairs, discussion leaders or reviewers.

And as if that wasn’t enough, there will be several great chances to be recognized for your scholarly work and teaching efforts.  MBAA will present the Distinguished Paper Award to one meritorious paper in each of the twelve disciplines for the overall MBAA conference, along with an award for Best Paper related to the MBAA International theme.  In addition, MMA has awards for best paper in track and best MMA paper.  Lastly, I encourage you to consider entering the MMA Master Teacher competition, now in its fourth year.  The competition is designed to recognize the teaching innovations and accomplishments of individuals within our field.  Although several well-deserving scholars will compete, only one will be become the 2006 Master Teacher!

I strongly encourage you to make plans to attend!  If you would like to volunteer to serve as a paper reviewer, discussant, or session chair, please let me know!
