SPRING 2004 WRAP UP
Let me thank you for your participation and help in making the Spring conference so successful, with more papers, more activities-more fun. The practitioners were generous with their knowledge. I was able to salvage a post-spring break class with something I learned about Wrigley; yet another class benefited from the wisdom distilled and distributed by our Innovator in Marketing, Valarie Zeithaml. For those who stayed Friday, the "Time to Unwined" taught us something about wines! Having been instrumental (no pun intended) in arranging for the Fun Night to include the Chicago Symphony, I was delighted when their performance exceeded expectations. Brian Engelland's use of the St. Paddy's day theme for the MMA reception was inspired-dare I use the word-marketing. In short (the last SHORT JOKE I will allow), what I saw of it (as program chair I saw a little) led me to believe that it fulfilled the organizational goals to further our teaching and research abilities-while enjoying it!
Let me put on my hat as your new president and invite you to continue your journey with the MMA; please join us for the upcoming fall conference (September 15-18, 2003 in St. Louis) which will feature a new competitive track for marketing education papers (deadline June 1) and an evening with the St. Louis Cardinals, along with the usual combination of educator tips, and practitioner speakers. Ron Taylor will be handling the arrangements. The overall deadline for non competitive position papers or panels is July 1.See mmaglobal.org for the call for papers.
Second, the MBAA supplied projectors for professional looking presentations for the first time. While we might have experienced first-hand the learning curve, rest assured, the MMA board has addressed the problem and will have a much smoother learning curve next year! Again, my apologies for any of you who were inconvenienced! Third, if you did not get a proceedings, or would like to purchase one, please contact "Pettijohn, Charlie E".
Finally, I'm happy to report that we're following the trek of Lewis and Clark in exploring new frontiers in marketing for next Spring's MMA conference, to be held at the Palmer House, March 16-18, 2005. Judy Wiles, program chair and president elect, is already ramping up for the conference. See mmaglobal.orgAgain, my thanks for making MMA one of your marketing organizations of choice; and the 2004 Spring Conference one of wonderful memories.
