Greetings from the new Marketing Insights Editors!

Vol 2: May 2005

IT'S OFFICIAL: JOHN SUMMEY IS

SIUC OUTSTANDING TEACHER OF THE YEAR

John received two framed certificates: one for the College of Business and Administration Most Outstanding Teaching Award and the other for the SIUC Most Outstanding Teaching Award.  He also received a special SIUC watch from the SIUC Alumni Association and a bunch of generous checks.  Nice.  In addition, he was given the title of Distinguished Teacher to add to his rank of Associate Professor.  A parking place is reserved for him for the coming year.

After the dinner, John went over to check on his students who were working on their projects at the computer lab.  They were very happy for his achievement and posed with him.  The awards are posted in the College of Business Administration at Rhen Hall and John's new title is already posted on the Faculty Directory.

Also, following is the press release regarding the award and its significance as part of the Excellence Through Commitment Program established as part of the Southern at 150 Commemoration.  The importance of the awards for excellence has been elevated to encourage, motivate, and focus attention on achievement by the university personnel in its quest as a major research, academic, and teaching institution.  This is the first year a title of Distinguished Teacher has been designated.

John looks at all this with a sense of wonder and a feeling that he was just in the right place at the right time.  He is still pinching himself to see if he is awake or only dreaming.  The Marketing Department surprised him with a lunch.  He thought he was just going to lunch with his Chairman, but when he arrived, everyone was there.
