High-Level Company Information

    
Before starting research on a particular company, searching will be easier if it can first be determined whether it is publicly held, privately owned, a subsidiary of a publicly held organization, or a foreign owned company.  
  
Ticker Symbol
      
One key step in research on the web is to identify the stock exchange ticker symbol for the company of interest. Either of the following sites will identify the ticker symbol for a public company.
   
Yahoo Global Symbol Lookup Covers U.S., Canada, and World markets. 
CBS Marketwatch Symbol Lookup Click on “Find Symbol” in the top bar.

General discussions on companies offer initial insight into its current situation, background information, and possibly some history.
  
Bloomberg Regarded as a premier site for news and financial information, Bloomberg.com draws from the news and data power of the Bloomberg Professional Service to provide the high quality news and information. (Fees may be required)
Business.com Business search engine and directory including company and industry profiles, news, financials, statistics, competitive analysis, and more.
CBS Marketwatch Provides news, stock information, research, and industry news through many sites and connections.
Corporate Information An excellent starting point for company intelligence.  Includes general message boards, Wright Analysis profiles, along with links to other services/sites.  Sign up required.
Goliath Goliath provides immediate online access to more than three million records including business articles, industry reports, company profiles and executive contacts pulled from business data resources maintained by Thomson Gale
Hoover's Online A widely respected service that provides timely and detailed information on over 18,000 public and private companies.  
Internetnews.com Often the most comprehensive resource for a variety of data, including an excellent assortment of graphs and charts on financial performance.
