Student Organizations

A valuable way for students to develop professional knowledge, skills, and friendships is to actively participate in the programs offered by student organizations. You are invited to become involved in their activities. Be alert to notices and announcements regarding the activities of these organizations.

  • AIESEC (more info)
AIESEC is the world's largest student-run organization and open to students of all majors interested in the global environment. Active in over 1700 universities across more than 107 countries and territories, our international platform enables young people to explore and develop their leadership potential for them to have a positive impact in society.

Each year, AIESEC provides over 5,500 members the challenging opportunity to live and work in a foreign country in areas of management and marketing, technology, education, and development. Our local chapter also offers guest speakers, regional, national, and international conference participation, real-world selling opportunities, and lots of fun.

The American Marketing Association (AMA) is the world's leading professional student organization, whose goal is to further the professional development of students through leadership training and involvement in the field of marketing. Membership is open to students interested in marketing and is not limited to business majors. The NIU chapter consists of dynamic and committed students that have the need to benefit from personal involvement. Some of the programs include professional speakers, mock interviews, visits to Chicago-area corporations, and other events that expand knowledge and allow students to meet new people.

The Collegiate Sales Advisory Board provides students with hands on opportunities to help make Northern Illinois University Professional Sales Program the premiere university sales program. The organization facilitates the interaction among professionals, faculty members, and students in order to ease the transition through the Professional Sales Program into the business world. CSAB has over 25 members and conducts weekly meetings providing guest speakers, development workshops, networking activities, and social opportunities.

The Interactive Student Board (ISB) represents the Interactive Marketing Area of Study by serving as a channel of communication and source of information between students and the program.

The Marketing Honor Society has four primary goals: (1) to recognize and honor undergraduate marketing students who have consistently demonstrated scholastic growth and attainment; (2) to provide a base by which current student members may make appropriate and productive contacts with business, government and academic communities; (3) to develop long-term relationships with NIU Marketing alumni; (4) to recognize and honor excellence in corporate achievement by business executives. The MHS holds elections each spring to elect student members to serve as the board for the upcoming year and hold general member meetings throughout the year.

The Marketing Student Advisory Board holds its membership at 12 students. The general purpose of the MSAB is to advise the Dept. of Marketing by initiating specific suggestions on all important student matters and represent marketing students by serving as a channel of communication and source of information between the students and the department. Some specific activities the MSAB is involved in are administering faculty evaluations each semester, nominating a faculty member for the Excellence in Teaching Award, and various fundraising activities. MSAB also hosts the annual Marketing Scholars' ceremony.
