Collection and presentation of data, measures of central tendency and variability, probability, sampling and sampling distributions, statistical inferences, simple linear regression and correlation, with emphasis on applications of these topics to business situations. 310 UBUS - BUSINESS CORE: LECTURE (9)
Introduction to the three primary functional areas in business (finance, marketing, and operations) as well as general principles of business management. Emphasis on interdisciplinary application of the business principles, and the cross-functional relationships between functional areas in business. PRQ: All 100- and 200-level College of Business core requirements with a C or better in ACCY 206, ACCY 207, MGMT 217, and UBUS 223, a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75, and junior standing.

311 UBUS - BUSINESS CORE: APPLICATIONS SEMINAR (3)
Application of the business principles covered in UBUS 310. Case analyses, exercises, current readings, and discussion of contemporary issues in business. Practice in team problem solving, oral and written communication skills. Must be taken concurrently with UBUS 310, or in the semester or term immediately following completion of UBUS 310. Must be taken prior to, or concurrently with, any 400-level College of Business course. CRQ: UBUS 310.

485 UBUS - BUSINESS CONSULTING PROJECT (3)
Supervised student team projects conducted with selected business organizations. Emphasis on collaborative efforts among students, faculty, and business representatives in a project management setting and the delivery of crossfunctional business solutions. PRQ: At least junior standing and consent of college.

OMIS 300 - CAREER PLANNING IN OPERATIONS AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT (1)
Career planning and job search skills of benefit to students in their initial employment search and throughout their careers. Topics include but are not limited to researching a company, writing a resume and cover letter, and interviewing techniques. PRQ: Operations and information management major and UBUS 310, or consent of department.

OMIS 338 - PRINCIPLES OF OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT (3)
Examination of issues, problems, and possible solutions for operations managers in the manufacturing and service environments. Topics include process design, capacity and facility planning, quality management, materials management, and an introduction to production and operations planning and control systems. Not open to majors in the College of Business. PRQ: Junior standing, MATH 210 or MATH 211 or MATH 229, STAT 301 or STAT 350 or UBUS 223.

OMIS 340 - SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT (3)
Comprehensive study of concepts, processes, and strategies used in the development and management of global supply chains. Topics include procurement, electronic commerce, information technologies, global supply chain management, and logistics activities. PRQ: UBUS 310, and OMIS 351, or consent of department. OMIS 351 - INFORMATION SYSTEMS IN ORGANIZATIONS (3)
Examination of functional management information systems (MIS) existing within organizations. Emphasis on analyzing and designing computer systems for functional areas. Need for integration of these systems stressed through the use of case studies. PRQ: Working knowledge of spreadsheet software, UBUS 223, or consent of department. CRQ: UBUS 310.

OMIS 352 - BUSINESS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES (3)
Advanced application of information technology development tools and techniques to enhance individual and group problem solving and critical thinking skills. Focus on developing seamless and integrated business applications using the latest development techniques and tools. CRQ: UBUS 310.

OMIS 379 - BUSINESS APPLICATIONS OF GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (3)
Examination of leveraging an organization’s spatial data to analyze and solve business problems. Extensive computer laboratory work designing business geographic services using commercially available software. PRQ: GEOG 256 or OMIS 351, or consent of department.

OMIS 421 - BUSINESS COMPUTER SIMULATION (3)
Study of discrete-event simulation modeling in the business environment. Topics include problem formulation, data collection and analysis, model development, model verification and validation, model experimentation and optimization, output analysis, and implementation of simulation results. Extensive laboratory experience with current simulation languages and simulators. PRQ: UBUS 310, OMIS 351, or consent of department. CRQ: UBUS 311.

OMIS 425 - INTEGRATED INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES IN BUSINESS (3)
related to the business environment. Topics include major business operating system platforms, relational database designs, structured query language (SQL), trends in database products and applications, and local and wide-area networking technologies used in business. Not recommended for operations and information management majors in the information systems area of study. PRQ: UBUS 310, OMIS 351 or ACCY 310, or consent of department. CRQ: UBUS 311.

OMIS 440 - CAPACITY PLANNING AND SCHEDULING (3)
Detailed examination of the capacity planning and operational scheduling issues in manufacturing environments. Topics include capacity planning factors, bills of capacity, rough cut capacity planning, loading, capacity requirements planning (CRP), finite operational scheduling, mass production manufacturing, database requirements, and relevant computer systems including shop floor control/production reporting systems. CRQ: OMIS 340, or consent of department.

OMIS 442 - QUALITY MANAGEMENT (3)
Detailed examination of the issues, techniques, and methodologies for planning and controlling quality in a manufacturing organization. Topics include evolutionary operation, orthogonal arrays, design of experiments, quality standards, vendor certification, total quality control, and quality function deployment. Emphasis on the quality paradigms of Feigenbaum, Taguchi, Juran, and Deming. CRQ: OMIS 340, or consent of department.

OMIS 449 - BUSINESS COMPUTING ENVIRONMENTS(3)
Study of operating systems for various business computing environments. Comparison of micro, mini, and mainframe operating systems is presented for the purpose of selecting an appropriate environment and configuration. Laboratory experience with business operating systems. PRQ: UBUS 310, OMIS 351, OMIS 352, or consent of department. CRQ: UBUS 311.

OMIS 450 - SERVICE OPERATIONS (3)
Analysis of the application of operations management concepts to service organizations. Strategic and tactical issues of managing service organizations, such as airline, financial, retail, health care, hotel/resort, and restaurant service delivery systems, will be examined. Topics include forecasting, location selection, layout design, labor scheduling, and capacity management as applied to service environments. PRQ: UBUS 310 or consent of department. CRQ: UBUS 311.

OMIS 452 - DATABASE MANAGEMENT FOR BUSINESS (3)
Comparison of database management packages for business computers with laboratory exercises that deal with the development of business applications. Practical experience with the most current database management packages. PRQ: UBUS 310, OMIS 351, or consent of department. CRQ: UBUS 311, OMIS 352.

OMIS 455 - ENTERPRISE RESOURCE PLANNING (3)
In-depth analysis of current business enterprise systems; their system components, database, information requirements, and system interfaces. Commercial software used to illustrate the concepts presented. PRQ: OMIS 340, or consent of department. CRQ: UBUS 311.

OMIS 458 - INTERNSHIP IN OPERATIONS AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT (3-6)
Full-time work for a semester or a summer as an intern in the operations or information systems function of an organization under the supervision of the department internship coordinator. A permanent fulltime or part-time position will not be considered an internship. May be repeated to a maximum of 6 semester hours. S/U grading. OMIS 460 - TELECOMMUNICATIONS FOR BUSINESS (3)
Survey of various methodologies and techniques utilized in interfacing telecommunication systems within the business environment, along with the consideration of issues related to the management of these telecommunications systems. PRQ: UBUS 310, OMIS 351, or consent of department. CRQ: UBUS 311.

OMIS 462 - BUSINESS SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT (3)
In-depth study of the concepts, methods, and tools used for business system development and project management. Topics include project design and estimating, the system development life cycle, change management, and quality assurance. OMIS 475 - ELECTRONIC BUSINESS TECHNOLOGIES (3)
Overview of electronic business technology including use of information technology tools to design and develop business-to-business applications. OMIS 478 - SUPPLY CHAIN SYSTEMS (3)
Intensive examination of decision systems for supply chain management. Supply chain strategy, supply chain analysis, and cross-functional solutions to supply chain problems. In-depth investigation of the major issues, problems, and solution methodologies of the operations and information management disciplines. OMIS 505 - PRINCIPLES OF OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT (2)
Examination of the issues, problems, and possible solutions for operations managers in the manufacturing and service environments. Introduction to business information systems concepts, uses, and issues, including functional management information systems, end-user computing, technology, platforms, and systems analysis and design. Emphasis on the effective utilization of information system technology by business professionals.

OMIS 524 - BUSINESS STATISTICS (2)
Descriptive statistics: probability, random variables, and probability distributions; sampling and sampling distributions; estimation and hypothesis testing; simple regression and correlation analysis. Applications to industry and business. PRQ: MATH 210 or consent of department.

OMIS 525 - BUSINESS INFORMATION SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGIES (3)
Study of current information systems technologies used by business professionals responsible for managing business transaction processing systems. Emphasis on selection of hardware platforms, operating systems, application development solutions, and integration of these areas to maximize organizational effectiveness. OMIS 600 -INTERNATIONAL STUDY IN MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS (3)
Short-term study-abroad experience to study significant concepts, tools, and methodologies of management information systems in the international environment. Analysis of global information systems issues through visitation and study of foreign organizations under supervision of a department faculty member. S/U grading. PRQ: Consent of department.

Concepts and techniques of computerized models. Emphasis on practical application of computer simulation to business problem solving. OMIS 624 - EXPERT SYSTEMS IN BUSINESS (3)
Examination of the new generation of expert systems and their impact on management information technologies and business applications. Topics include a review of expert systems in use, the application of these expert systems to business decision making, and the structure of an expert system in business. Students design and program a prototype expert system for business decisions. CRQ: OMIS 651 or consent of department.

OMIS 627 - OPERATIONS ANALYSIS (3)
Analysis of the conceptual and analytical approaches to the solution of significant operations problems. Emphasis on case analyses and quantitative solutions within a global competitive environment. PRQ: All Phase One courses or consent of department.

OMIS 628 - MANAGEMENT SCIENCE TECHNIQUES FOR MANAGERIAL ANALYSIS (3)
Development and application of quantitative methods such as linear programming, inventory, waiting line theory, simulation, and model building to provide a basis for rational decision-making in the allocation of resources within the various functional areas of the firm, with emphasis on production. OMIS 642 - QUALITY MANAGEMENT (3)
Detailed examination of the issues, techniques, and methodologies for planning and controlling continuous quality improvement in manufacturing and service organizations. A student project in continuous quality improvement required. PRQ: OMIS 505 and OMIS 524, or consent of department.

OMIS 643 - CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT SYSTEMS IN QUALITY MANAGEMENT (3)
Focus on continuous improvement in both service and manufacturing firms, with emphasis on quality improvement and business process reengineering. Topics include continuous improvement methodologies, business process analysis, business process redesign, and process change implementation. PRQ: OMIS 524 or consent of department.

OMIS 649 - BUSINESS COMPUTING ENVIRONMENTS (3)

OMIS 651 - BUSINESS SYSTEMS ANALYSIS AND DESIGN (3)
Comparison of various methodologies and techniques used in the analysis and design of business systems with emphasis on selecting appropriate techniques for evolving development contexts. Projects utilize these analysis and design techniques to identify business problems and design appropriate solutions. Emphasis on teamwork and communication skills. OMIS 652 - BUSINESS APPLICATIONS OF DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS (3)
Critical examination of the design, implementation, and management of database systems. Topics include the relational database model, entity-relationship modeling, normalization, the logical implementation of databases, transaction management, distributed databases, object-oriented databases, client/server systems, data warehousing, database administration, and the use of databases in Website design. OMIS 660 - BUSINESS TELECOMMUNICATIONS (3)
Examination of the field of business telecommunications from the perspective of business applications. Evaluation of hardware needed for effective business telecommunication. Includes projects that require examination of communications systems requirements and selection of techniques suitable for meeting the system requirements. OMIS 661 - BUSINESS DECISION TECHNOLOGIES (3)
In-depth study of the major components used to create and manage information systems to support business decisions: the human decision-making process; data access and analysis; decision algorithms; and relevant hardware and software. Focus on development and use of decision support systems, expert systems, executive information systems, and group decision support systems. PRQ: OMIS 507 or consent of department.

OMIS 671 - BUSINESS FORECASTING (3)
Principles, techniques, and applications of forecasting for the business enterprise. Topics include ARIMA (Box-Jenkins) models, exponential smoothing models, and regression models. PRQ: OMIS 505 or consent of department.

OMIS 675 - TECHNOLOGIES AND APPLICATIONS OF ELECTRONIC BUSINESS(3)
In-depth examination of application of electronic commerce technology and development tools to support business-to-business and business-to-consumer commerce. Focus on the strategic impact of technology decisions in the electronic commerce marketplace. Extensive computer laboratory work required to design advanced electronic commerce applications. OMIS 680 - LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT (3)
Examination of concepts, issues, and methodologies related to design and administration of supply chain systems. Emphasis on executive-level decision making and the impact of supply chain management on organizational performance. Includes supply chain strategy, strategic alliances, supplier and customer relationships, use of technology, and the integration of logistical operations in the attainment of organizational objectives in a global competitive environment. OMIS 682- ADVANCED BUSINESS NETWORKING (3)
Complete examination of the design, implementation, and management of network systems for business communications. In-depth analysis of current business telecommunications hardware and software in the Intranet and Internet environments with emphasis on hands-on laboratory experience with design, implementation, configuration, and management of business network systems using multiple technologies. PRQ: OMIS 660 or consent of department.

OMIS 684- ADVANCED DATABASE MANAGEMENT (3)
In-depth examination of the database administration function, including advanced SQL and PL/ SQL. Laboratory experience in database administration and programming, with emphasis on creating database applications in the Web environment. OMIS 685 - OPERATIONS STRATEGY (3)
Study of operations strategy within the context of manufacturing and service organizations. Emphasis on the use of case analysis in strategy development and policy formulation. PRQ: OMIS 627 or consent of department.

OMIS 687- OBJECT-ORIENTED BUSINESS APPLICATIONS DEVELOPMENT (3)

OMIS 690 - INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PROJECT MANAGEMENT (3)
Application and integration of the project management body of knowledge areas to managing information technology projects. Focus on project management tools and techniques for defining and managing the project goal, scope, schedule, and budget. Other topics include quality management, risk management, and knowledge management as they relate to information technology projects. PRQ: OMIS 651 or consent of department.

OMIS 694 - ADVANCED TOPICS IN INFORMATION SYSTEMS (3)
In-depth study of some of the advanced topics of contemporary interest related to management information systems including alternative business systems design methodologies, advanced data base systems, architectures, and systems quality. OMIS 695 - INTERNSHIP IN MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS (3)
Designed primarily for students lacking full-time business experience. Fulltime work for a summer or a semester as an intern in a business firm under the supervision of a coordinator from the Department of Operations Management and Information Systems. OMIS 697 - STRATEGIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (3)
Study of issues related to the leadership of the information systems function. Emphasis on strategic thinking and alignment of information technology with business objectives. Models and techniques of strategic information management illustrated through case studies. Topics include strategies for application portfolios, technical infrastructure, redesign of business processes, change management, information economics, and other organizational issues related to information systems.
