A limited number of graduate assistantships are available through the OM&IS Department each year. To be considered for an assistantship, you must be officially admitted to the program and be in good academic standing. Applications for assistantships should be submitted to the Department office. They will be reviewed prior to the fall term or, as needed. Because the number is limited. we also encourage students to seek opportunities for assistantships in other departments.
Students may complete the program either on a full-time or part-time basis. Our Naperville campus offers the program on a part-time basis only. Students may also pursue the degree in DeKalb on a part-time or full-time basis. Classes on both sides are offered in the evenings.
A student is considered "full-time" in graduate school if he/she enrolls in 9 credit hours. Students should consult with their advisor to take more than 12 credit hours.
Students may find their own internships through personal job search channels or they may use the services of the OM&IS Internship Program or other university resources. Students wishing to gain academic credit for the internship experience must register for the internship course through the OM&IS Department. Career Services cannot grant academic credit.
For more information regarding graduate internships, please contact Steve Kispert, MIS Program Coordinator, 1(815) 753-6372, or skispert@niu.edu.
