How can I find out more information about the Master of Science or the Certificate in Management Information Systems program?

Is there financial assistance available?

A limited number of graduate assistantships are available through the OM&IS Department each year. To be considered for an assistantship, you must be officially admitted to the program and be in good academic standing. Applications for assistantships should be submitted to the Department office. They will be reviewed prior to the fall term or, as needed. Because the number is limited. we also encourage students to seek opportunities for assistantships in other departments.

Is the MIS program full-time or part-time ?

Students may complete the program either on a part-time or full-time basis at the DeKalb campus with courses being offered weekday evenings. Additionally, a limited number of required courses for the degree are offered at the Naperville campus.

How many courses will I take if I want to attend full-time ?

A student is considered "full-time" in graduate school if he/she enrolls in 9 credit hours. Students should consult with their advisor to take more than 12 credit hours.

How does the MIS internship program work?

Students may find their own internships through personal job search channels or they may use the services of the OM&IS Internship Program or other university resources. Students wishing to gain academic credit for the internship experience must register for the internship course through the OM&IS Department. Career Services cannot grant academic credit.

What is the culture like in the OM&IS Department - what is the culture in graduate program?

The OM&IS Department prides itself on being strongly oriented towards the personal welfare and future career success of its students. The word “family” is used often to describe the culture of the department by students, faculty, staff, and those external to the department.

Is there additional fee for courses taken at Naperville campus?

Yes. The College of Business assesses an additional fee for courses delivered off campus. Contact the department or the Bursar's Office for exact charges.
