Physical Foundation

  • Strategic Objective #3: Physical Foundation

  • DISPOSITION OF THE WORK:
    FALL 2002 BARSEMA HALL OPENS

SPC desired outcomes for this initiative are reflected in the creation and opening of Barsema Hall, a $20 million world-class facility made possible by the generous donation of Dennis and Stacey Barsema. College of Business faculty and staff provided input to the architects as they designed Barsema Hall; this input reflects the sentiments and outcomes associated with this objective.

Additionally, the following action areas in Wirtz Hall and McMurry Hall were completed:

    • SP 2000: Crosswalk repair completed.
    • FA 2000: Wirtz benches/seating installed (55 seats @ ~$300/per).
    • SU 2000: Wirtz lightcourt upgraded (~$20,200).
    • SP 2000: Phases 1-2 of Classroom upgrades. 50% of classrooms have electronic podiums and 29% of classrooms are repainted and refurnished.
    • SP 2000: Advanced Application Computer Lab is established.
    • FA 2000: Phase 1 of Technology Plan. First year of three-year technology plan is executed.
    • FA 2001: Wirtz Auditorium upgrade completed (committed funds: $267,000).
    • FA 2001: Phase 3 of Classroom upgrades. An additional 25% of classrooms have electronic podiums.
    • FA 2001: Phase 2 of Technology Plan. Second year of three-year technology plan is executed.

The Wirtz Hall and McMurry Hall improvements that were made by the College of Business provide a legacy for NIU departments outside of the College of Business that are now housed within those buildings.
