The College of Business wants to assist you in any way possible to help insure your academic success at NIU. Many college and campus resources are available to aid you, however, the key to success begins with YOU.

We realize there are a lot of distractions for students in college, but while you are at NIU we want to enable you to further your knowledge and prepare yourself for a successful lifelong career. Instead of relying on common sense or a general familiarity with information, the expectation is that you MASTER the material and reach that next level of understanding. This requires work and commitment!

In additon to the tips from our students, there are numerous other strategies you might find useful including rewriting your notes, recording lectures and listening to the lecture again, and making note cards to help you master information.

• Attend class.
• Seek help EARLY.
  Talk to your professor and go to the tutors (www.cob.niu.edu/success/businesstutoring.asp) whenever you have a question or need additional help.
• Do your homework and do it early.
  Homework reinforces concepts covered in class and prepares you for success on the exams.
• Get to know your classmates.
  Classmates can be great people to study with or turn to when you need help.
• Read the materials assigned in class.
