Dr. Riley joined the faculty at NIU in August 2007 after completing his Ph.D. at Texas Tech University. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy in 1987 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Accountancy degree from New Mexico State University in 2004. Prior to pursuing an academic career, Dr. Riley worked in public accounting for two large national firms. He also served as corporate controller for a publicly-traded company where he oversaw a variety of financial and managerial accounting functions and was involved in the company's SEC reporting function.

Dr. Riley's research interests include the interaction between capital markets and accounting estimates, the effects of tax policy on capital markets, and factors considered by individuals in their investment decisions.
