NEW COB FACULTY AND STAFF MEMBERS
FALL 2004

Mary Allen - Management Department Secretary
Mary Allen, a native of New York, moved from California to Rockford in 1991. This is her first job at NIU. Among the various positions she has held in the past were Facilities Administrator for Amcore Bank for 5 years and a buyer for a manufacturing firm in New York.

Mary's husband, Ed, owns his own business. They have three grown daughters. Two live in the Rockford area: one is an elementary school principal and the other teaches high school chemistry and physics. Their youngest daughter is a fashion designer in New York City.

Mary enjoys Chicago, art and theater, entertaining, and her four grandchildren.

Check out Mary's personnel page at http://www.cob.niu.edu/personnel/PersonnelDetails.asp?id=m60mja1.

Emily Blickem - Academic Counselor
Emily Blickem is a 1999 graduate of Northern Illinois University with a B.A. in Psychology. She feels fortunate to be able to turn her knowledge of NIU into a career helping current students prepare for their future.

As a student, Emily was a Residential Advisor in University Plaza. This position helped her to become more aware of the services and support that NIU offers its students. Inevitably, that experience led to her first official position with NIU as an Assistant Director in the Office of Admissions.

Locally born and raised, Emily has been an active member of the DeKalb/Sycamore community all her life. Her passion for softball kept her busy for the first 15 years; now she spends a lot of time reading, watching football (Go Bears!), and listening to music.

Check out Emily's personnel page at http://www.cob.niu.edu/personnel/PersonnelDetails.asp?id=m50eab1.

Tim Paige - Technology Resources Director & Facility Manager
Tim Paige worked in the private sector prior to coming to NIU. Previous positions include: Information Technology Service/Facility Manager at Knowledge Development Centers, Information Systems Manager at Pfizer/Warner-Lambert, and System Analyst at the Northern Illinois Gas Company.

Tim currently resides in Hoffman Estates, Illinois with his wife, Sharon, daughter, Erika, and son, Jason. He is an avid all-Chicago sports fan; he is especially a passionate supporter of the Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and White Sox.

Check out Tim's personnel page at http://www.cob.niu.edu/personnel/PersonnelDetails.asp?id=m50txp1.

Ronald Parrish - Management Instructor
Ron Parrish teaches MGMT 447, Leadership, and will be teaching MGMT 468, Strategic Management, in the spring term. Previously he has taught part time at Farleigh Dickinson University Graduate School of Business in Morristown, New Jersey, at West Virginia University College of Engineering, and at McHenry County College in Crystal Lake, Illinois.

He holds an M.B.A. from Rutgers University and an undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering from West Virginia University, and practiced as a licensed professional engineer. Prior to his return to academia, Ron was President of John Crane Ploymers, N.A. of Morton Grove, Illinois, CEO of Acushnet Rubber Co. of New Bedford, Massachusetts, and CEO of Specialty Elastomers Technologies, Inc., an international rubber and plastics manufacturing conglomerate.

Ron and his wife, Barbara, own and operate a small horse farm where they live in Bull Valley, Illinois. He was formerly a two-term mayor of this small community. Ron and Barbara have four children and seven grandchildren. Ron's other outside interests include singing in the church choir, sailing, whitewater rafting and canoeing, hunting, and fishing.

Check out Ron's personnel page at http://www.cob.niu.edu/personnel/PersonnelDetails.asp?id=m60rkp1.

Mark Quinn - Finance Instructor
Mark Quinn teaches FINA 115, Personal Finance, a course that teaches managing a budget, judicious use of credit, purchasing and financing a home, managing personal investments, etc. He is also in his third semester at Columbia College, where he teaches, or has taught, Accounting and Financial Management at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Mark's non-teaching career has consisted of junk bond analysis, junk bond portfolio management, general fixed income management, futures and options trading, and personal and institutional financial consulting. Currently, he is Chief Investment Officer at Amalgamated Bank of Chicago.

Mark very much likes teaching; he is happy that he began a teaching career relatively late in life and looks forward to teaching full-time some day. He also likes to write, to speak in front of groups, and spend time with his wife and three kids. He is also an avid car nut and would rather talk cars above all other topics. In the world of music, Mark enjoys both classical and big band music and is a huge Aaron Copeland and Frank Sinatra/Dean Martin/Sammy Davis, Jr. fan. Mark thinks The Godfather (either 1 or 2; they are interchangeable) was the greatest film ever made, with Dr. Strangelove as a close second.

Check out Mark's personnel page at http://www.cob.niu.edu/personnel/PersonnelDetails.asp?id=m40mmq1.
