NEW COB FACULTY AND STAFF MEMBERS FALL 2005
| Tina Alvarado - Management Department Academic Advisor
|
Tina began her career as a Vocational Counselor with the Job Training Partnership Act and continued as a Career Advisor at The University of Texas at Austin McCombs' School of Business. For seven years Tina left the realm of academia to work as a Corporate Trainer in the private sector. She served as Assistant Director of Career Services at Texas A & M University in Corpus Christi, TX.
Tina loves to go salsa dancing and go for long walks along Ottawa's riverfront and I&M's canal trail. She also enjoys listening to live music; she especially keeps an eye out for Austin musicians who come to perform in Chicago. Tina is an avid reader and likes going to book readings. And, perhaps most important, Tina loves to travel. Costa Rica is her favorite destination.

| David Aron - Visiting Associate Professor of Marketing |
David teaches Marketing 325, Buyer Behavior. He says he tries to make his classroom a creative and fun environment for his students.
Previously, David has taught many different marketing courses to various levels of students—Undergrads, MBAs, and international—at DePaul University (Chicago and Naperville, IL), Lewis University (Joliet, IL), and University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Among the courses taught were Advertising, Marketing Management, Marketing Research, Retailing, Experiential Marketing, and Business-to-Business Marketing.
During the late 1980s and early 1990s, David worked as Marketing Director for Eastland Mall, a regional shopping center in Columbus, Ohio. He then worked as Marketing Specialist for CompuServe's Electronic Mall, one of the first-ever online shopping environments.
David lives in Naperville with his wife and three children. He enjoys Chicago sports and is a die-hard Bears fan and a "die-annually" Cubs fan. He also cheers for his schools: Northwestern, Ohio State, Michigan, and now NIU.

| John Bruton - Visiting Professor of Management
|
John teaches MGMT 468, Strategic Management, and MGMT 650, Strategic Environmental Analysis. He earned a B.S. and M.S. in Engineering at Oakland University (Rochester, MI) and his Ph.D. in Management at the University of Massachusetts. His research interests focus on management in non-profit organizations; in addition, he has conducted research in organizations involved in the peace process in Northern Ireland.
Prior teaching experience includes Assistant Professor at California State University, Teaching/Research Associate at the University of Massachusetts, Adjunct Professor at Moorpark College, and Senior Lecturer at the University of Botswana. Outside of academia, John worked as General/Technical Manager at Moller International; Technical Director as Operations Expert in the Botswana Workforce and Skills Training Project at the Rural Industries Innovation Centre; and Technical Section Manager in the Missile Systems Division at Hughes Aircraft Company. He served as a Consultant at the Small Business Development Center Lead Office at California State University and at the Center for Management and Organizational Development at California State University.
John's leisure activities mostly involve gardening and home remodeling. He is very active in the Baha'i Faith.

| Bridgett Coleman - Accountancy Instructor
|
Bridgett is currently teaching ACCY 505, Financial Accounting Concepts, in the MBA Program at the Rockford Education Center. She previously coordinated ACCY 206, Financial Accounting, at NIU before taking a brief leave of absence. She also taught Managerial Accounting and Financial Statement Analysis.
Bridgett is a practicing Certified Public Accountant in Rockford, specializing in tax issues for individuals and small businesses. She frequently speaks to business and professional groups on accounting-related topics for small business owners.
Bridgett is married and has two children, ages 3 and 8. She says that teaching allows her the flexibility to be an active participant in their education. She serves on many nonprofit boards in Rockford, including past President of her children's Montessori school.
Although she has traveled and lived in several parts of the U.S., Bridgett was raised in Gary, IN. She earned her B.S. degree at Indiana University and her M.B.A. from Notre Dame.

| Stephanie Henagan - Assistant Professor of Management
|
Stephanie is currently teaching two sections of MGMT 335, Organizational Behavior. She has earned a B.S. in Elementary Education and an M.B.A. from Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge. While working on her Ph.D. at LSU, Stephanie taught Principles of Management, Introduction to Labor Relations, and Human Behavior in Organizations. She will be completing her Ph.D. in Business Administration this semester.
Stephanie grew up in Mobile, Alabama. Her husband, Barry, is an Engineer at the Citgo refinery in Lemont, IL. They moved from Louisiana to the Village of Montgomery in July.
Stephanie has two cats, Hamlet and Ophelia. She enjoys scrapbooking and going to LSU football games. Stephanie is a big college football fan and is looking forward to using her Huskie season tickets!

| Chih-Chen Lee - Assistant Professor of Accountancy
|
Chih-Chen came from Taiwan in 1991 and earned her Master and Ph.D. in Accounting from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. While in the doctoral program at SIUC, she taught Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Statistics, and Auditing.
Chih-Chen's first formal job was at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. During her five-year stay, Chih-Chen taught Accounting Information Systems and Forensic Accounting.
Chih-Chen's husband is a faculty member at the University of Illinois at Springfield. Chih-Chen has two boys, 7 and 3 years old, who keep her fairly busy.

| Rebecca Shortridge - Assistant Professor of Accountancy |
Rebecca is currently teaching Accountancy 432, Financial Accounting II. She earned her Ph.D. from Michigan State University. Her primary area of research is financial accounting, in particular, intangible assets and valuation.
Before coming to NIU, Rebecca taught at Ball State for five years and at the University of North Carolina for one year. She worked in public accounting for five years before obtaining her doctorate.
Rebecca's husband, Brad, is the Assistant Principal at Genoa-Kingston Middle School. Brad and Rebecca have two sons: Jackson (7) and Riley (3).

| Harshini Siriwardane - Accountancy Instructor
|
Harshini teaches three sections of ACCY 320, Intermediate Cost Management. Prior to coming to NIU, she taught at the University of Missouri, Fontbonne College in St. Louis, MO, Willamette University in Salem, OR, and Robert Morris College. Courses taught were Managerial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Strategic Cost Management, Financial Accounting, and Project Management.
Harshini has held many volunteer positions in elementary schools. Her most memorable experience was to coach the Math-24 Challenge. Currently she is the PTA Treasurer for Patterson Elementary in Naperville.
Harshini says her primary job is being Mom to her three children, who are 12, 10, and 7. Her husband, Haresh, is a physicist. Now that he has an M.B.A., Harshini claims that he thinks more like a businessman than a physicist!
Gardening and painting are Harshini's hobbies. She and her family reside in Naperville.

| Gail Vermillion - Marketing Instructor Department Secretary

Gail teaches Marketing 443, Marketing Research. Previous teaching experience includes teaching Undergrad students for nearly 8 years and Grad students for 2 years. She also taught online for 2 years.
Gail worked in Sales and Marketing at Proctor & Gamble, Black & Decker, Helene Curtis, and Primera Vision. She also did fund raising at the Institute of Nautical Archaeology and was Director at the Texas A&M Career Center.
Gail loves her two dogs and watching WB (Warner Brothers) and Sci Fi channels. She also spends a lot of time watching her niece play basketball.

| Lei Zhou - Assistant Professor of Finance

Lei is currently teaching FINA 340, Investment. He earned a B.A. from Suzhou University (International Trade), M.B.A. from the University of Alabama (Business), M.S. from Purdue University (Agricultural Economics), and a Ph.D. from the University of Florida (Finance). Prior to coming to NIU, Lei taught at the University of Florida and Miami University.
