Matt Pickard, Ph.D. joined the NIU Accountancy Department the Fall of 2018. Matt received his Ph.D. in Management of Information Systems at the University of Arizona in 2012 and both his MBA and B.S. in Computer Engineering at Brigham Young University. At NIU, he teaches Data Analytics. He taught both Accounting Information Systems and Data Analytics at the University of New Mexico, prior to joining NIU. In his research, Matt explores ways to use computer technology to increase both the amount and quality of information disclosed in accounting-related interviews such as audits and fraud investigations. Presently, he is expanding upon an automated interviewing system that leverages avatars (virtual humans) as interviewers. His research interests also include business data analytics. He has provided training in R and Excel for a variety of topics such as audit analytics and data visualization. He is a family man and woodworker.
